Outfits to Rooms: Kate Middleton

It's finally here - the Royal Wedding!

Much will be said and written today about Kate's regal Alexander McQueen wedding gown, which already seems to have been classified a success.  I thought I'd take a look at some of her outfits worn as a "commoner", and find interiors to match her vibe....

Look for Less: MGBW X-Bench Ottoman

So excited to pick a fabric today for two Mitchell Gold Bob Williams Duvall ottomans we're using for a client project:

How gorgeous are these?!  They're even more stunning in person...

But starting at $1199 each, they're not for everyone...

Looking for an alternative?  How about Restoration Hardware's Toscane Linen Nailhead Bench, on sale for $325?

Have a great day!

House of Fifty has Launched!

"House of Fifty", an online magazine by Janell Beals, who writes the insanely terrific design blog "Isabell & Max Rooms", launched yesterday after much anticipation.

We met Janell at a special taping of the "The Nate Berkus Show"just for design bloggers.  The tag line pretty much sums it up: "ideas for inspired living" and the magazine delivers.  It features great tips on DIY interior design, fun product suggestions, flower arranging and even recipes.

My favorite feature was on "Creating a Family Command Center" (makes it sound like mission control!) and if you work and have kids & pets you KNOW you need this!  And guess what?  It doesn't have to look like this:

It can be stylish, functional and beautiful. Wow. Impressive.

And Cristin Preist's (author of Simplified Bee, and another new blogging friend from the Nate Berkus show) "Message Board Chic" was absolutely fabulous paired with it.

The burlap message board and bee push pins from Ballard Design are fantastic!

Now, go read House of Fifty and soak up all those great ideas!

How Much Is the Pink Elephant in the Window?

Since we posted about the upcoming Lilly Pulitzer furniture collection a couple of months ago (click here), we've had quite a few inquiries!  Most recently, we were contacted by an individual interested in purchasing the pink elephant below.

Quite honestly, I'm not sure if this elephant, showcased at Fall market, is part of the collection, or just a prop!

While poking around for more information, I found some new images from the collection showcased at Spring market a couple of weeks ago...

I'm wild for these Lauren chairs in particular - love the feminine shape contrasted with the bold geometric pattern.

Word on the street is that the to-the-trade fabrics will be available through Lee Jofa in June.  As for the rest of the collection... coming to retail locations sometime this summer!  We'll let you know when we know...

There's already been plenty of buzz about the shoe-storage ottoman - how brilliant!

Ahoy Matey

Did you see this incredible pirate bedroom floating around the internet this week, created by design/builder Steve Kuhl for a lucky 6 year old kid?  From the floating ship to the rope bridge to the 55 foot hidden slide... pretty amazing.  Though I have to worry how the rest of this little guy's life will hold up in relation to this!

Framed Wallpaper

If you're interested in experimenting with wallpaper, but are afraid to bite the bullet, you might want to consider framing a couple of exceptional pieces, and treating them like artwork.  This tends to work best with large patterns, especially florals or chinoiserie prints, as you'll see below.

Would you like to create the look in your home?  Look no further than Secondhand Rose, a fantastic source for vintage wallpaper located in New York City, and of course, online.

Love this image from Second Hand Rose's website.  Reminds me of when my mom and I hung a wallpaper border around my room as a child..with some extremely notable exceptions, including that no one is yelling or crying.  We'll just leave it at that!
