First Day of School, and This and That

Yesterday was the first day of school for us, and I sent off two first graders (in separate directions, for the first time).  The twin who wouldn't get out of the car for kindergarten last year was so excited that she slept with her first day of school outfit under her pillow, and was up and waiting by the door at the crack of dawn.  My other twin, who started kindergarten with grace last year, cried all morning, insisting that she didn't want to go (and in fact would not go) to first grade.  She finally relented when I told her I'd go to jail for not sending her to first grade.  And then she happily skipped off.

The lobby re-do was apparently met with a standing ovation, which I missed because I was talking (too much, according to one twin) with some moms outside on the playground.

Here's the Chihuly inspired piece the kids made, installed from the ceiling:

And here's the before and afters on the desk chair I rescued from the dump:

Back at our house, I picked up my Brimfield X-benches from the upholsterer.  Remember these?

I used an affordable Kravet velvet, and they look right at home now in my dining room:

On the other side of the room, I ordered two Pagoda lamps to be used as buffet lamps.  They arrived, and I love them.  I then realized there are no electrical outlets on that side of the room.  Lesson learned!

Are you off to school yet, or still enjoying summer?

Stripes for Kids!

What is it that makes stripes so perfect for a kid's room?  Maybe that they can be used playfully, without being cheesy.  Or that they're gender neutral, and versatile.  Or that they can grow with your little one.  Yep, all that...

Have a great day!

Shipping You Home

A group of several creative architects has started a new and fascinating trend - recycling steel corrugated shipping containers and using them in their work.  Not only is this trend "green", it saves considerably on construction costs.  They've done it all - from using just a couple of containers to create a tiny and efficient home with everything you could need, to providing just the framework for an indoor/outdoor entryway, to building a entire city block of shipping container housing for students in Holland.

All the basics, from Poteet Architects:

I'm guessing these steel structures would have been a great place to ride out Irene!

Client Project: Scalamandre Zebra

Along with our colleague Cindy, Becky and I have been working on a large client project for several months now.  After months in production, it's exciting to see the orders come in, and the space start to come together.

One of my favorite rooms so far?  The downstairs powder room featuring the iconic Scalamandre leaping zebras wallpaper.  Paired with new Circa sconces, and a mirror from Home Decorators (of all places!), the bathroom is looking amazing!  Our client painted the vanity herself, and added adorable hardware from Anthropologie to complete the look...

Stay dry this weekend!

In Love with Legacy Linens

Deb and I had a ball at the NYIGF last weekend sourcing many amazing products for clients and meeting many lovely people.  While there were many items that we liked and thought would work for our various clients, there was one line that literally stopped us in our tracks: Legacy Linens. And once we met the delightful people that work there, we were sold.  Literally.  We ordered bedding on the spot for a project and can't wait to see it installed.

This is the vignette that first grabbed us.  We must have been quite a sight from inside the booth - both of us stopped, jaws dropped to the floor...there may have been drool involved...I don't recall.  I am sure they are laughing at us on some security camera reel somewhere.

And yes, they do those AMAZING horizontal striped panels and fretwork....

And, oh yeah - those amazing headboards!  Yep. There is not much left to say.  Here are some more images from the show:

Here are some of the glamour shots from the website!

If you are interested in Legacy Linens - let us know!  We'd be happy to help!

Sweet dreams!
